money savings

Here we go through a large number of good savings tips of varying sizes. We look at one category at a time such as electricity, water, telephone / internet and so on. Maybe you can find some good tips that can help you cut your costs a bit and get some better finances. Nice reading.

Electricity

Electricity

  1. Lower the temperature of the house by pulling down on the thermostat in the summer. No extra heat is normally needed during this time as the house will quickly heat up in the morning. In winter you will of course have a little higher but only a few colder saves a lot of money in the long run.
  2. Pull your curtains in the summer and open them in the winter. This is true when the sun is on when it gets too hot in the summer and in the winter you want to let in the heat. When the sun goes down, pull them in the winter to keep warm.
  3. If there are gaps at doors or other places in the house, be sure to seal them. Otherwise, much unnecessary heat will have to be replaced, which will cost you money.
  4. Whenever possible, leave your laundry hanging and drying instead of running the dryer. A tumbler costs in round tubes around USD 2 per hour it goes.
  5. Disconnect electrical appliances. Even though they are switched off, they often draw some electricity and are able to stand by, they definitely draw electricity.
  6. Review your insulation. If the house is not insulated enough, the cost of winter will be unnecessarily high.
  7. Do not wash clothes unnecessarily often. Of course you should wash clothes that are dirty but sometimes it is washed a little well often. If you have worn a sweater for a couple of hours, it is most likely not dirty.
  8. The same goes for your bath towel. As long as you do it immediately after you shower, it will not get dirty quickly. The idea is that you should be clean when you get out of the shower. The towel should only dry the water.
  9. Use energy-efficient appliances. It is often not worthwhile to buy new appliances just because they are energy-efficient, but if something in the home breaks down (which they do on a regular basis) then buy new ones that are energy-efficient.
  10. Do not use larger pans than necessary. With a smaller saucepan you can use a smaller plate, for example, plus if you make pasta, for example, you do not need to heat more water than necessary.
  11. Make sure your freezer is full. A freezer with a lot of empty space simply draws more electricity.
  12. If you use the stove or oven, you are happy to do more things at once. For example, you can bake bread and then immediately cook dinner after that. Then you do not need to heat the oven more than once.

Water

  1. Shorten the amount of time you and your family shower. A 5 minute shower costs about USD 3 – 4. 20 minutes in the shower costs around USD 10. The cost varies greatly depending on whether you live in an apartment, as it can be free of charge if you have a house that has direct electricity. A family of 4 people who shower every day and do this for 5 minutes costs USD 4,380 per year (calculated at USD 3 per time). 20 minutes each day costs USD 14,600 instead. Therefore, make sure not to shower unnecessarily long as you will be clean in 5 minutes and shorter if you wish. For example, make sure to always turn off the water when you shampoo yourself.
  2. Make sure no taps or similar are dripping. A tap that just drops a little light drops out about 25 liters of water per day. The cost of the energy and water that this entails is about USD 1.50 per day. Which is almost USD 350 per year. If it is a slightly coarser beam that comes out, it can easily cost up to USD 20 per day which is USD 7,300 per year.
  3. Stop in a brick or stuffed plastic bottle in your toilet. Toan accounts for about 20% of all the water we consume at home and often unnecessarily much water is flushed each time. You can change this by filling up the space where the water collects.
  4. You do not need to water the garden as the grass will come back green and fine when it rains again.
  5. If you really can’t imagine having a browner lawn then make sure to get a timer for the water spreader so you don’t risk forgetting it. Water even in the evening or night when not as much water evaporates before it can land on the lawn.
  6. When brushing your teeth, do not allow the water to drain while brushing. Only waste of water during this time.

Cleaning and maintenance

money loan

  1. You can make your own shampoo, detergent, etc. if you wish which is much cheaper. You can get tips through this site eg. If you Google a little, you will probably find more good tips.
  2. Perform the repairs yourself. Many things that break down in the house you can fix yourself. There are, for example, lots of guides online on pages that focus on home fixing and construction. Applies to being realistic, however, as it is better to call in a professional directly than to try to fix yourself to fail and make it all worse.
  3. If there is an acute risk of the water freezing in the pipes, you can leave a tap slightly open to keep the water moving at all times. Water expands by 10 – 20% when it freezes so full pipes can break and leak a lot of water which is both expensive in water cost and repair. It is much cheaper to drop some water than to be forced to pay for repair.
  4. Before renovating anything, it is always best to talk to friends who have done similar things before or people who are knowledgeable in the subject. Make sure you do the right thing before you embark on something.

Phone, Internet, etc.

  1. Do you really need a landline phone? Maybe it’s just as smooth and significantly cheaper to just use mobile phones. Of course, if you are not someone who talks a lot on the phone, of course.
  2. Do you have unnecessary accessories for your landline or mobile phone? Make isf of you with these if they cost money.
  3. Use email, Skype or other communication options instead of long and expensive phone calls. For example, you can talk on Skype with someone who lives on the other side of the world at no extra cost, which hardly applies to a phone call.
  4. Think about how many TV channels you really need. Terminate those you don’t watch often.

Decoration / Interior

Decoration / Interior

  1. Buy cheap on the Block and similar sites. Couches and the like you will find lots of on sites of this kind. For example, a quick search for the word couch on the block gives when this article is written 10,524 results under the furniture section.
  2. See the potential of a piece of furniture. If you have a sofa that starts to wear out but has a good frame, you can change it. The same goes for the ones you buy used. If you need to repaint / wallpaper a room and the bookshelf no longer fits in, you may be able to paint it to a suitable color. Generally much cheaper than buying new.
  3. Use family photos, children’s drawings or anything else for decoration. It looks both nice and cheap.
  4. Repaint instead of wallpaper. Of course, there are exceptions, but normally it costs considerably less to paint than to wallpaper a room. Then, for example, if you just paint white or some simple color, you can also buy cheaper color that is perfect for the purpose. If you plan well, you can easily repaint a room with everything it means for less than USD 1,000.
  5. Organize your stuff nicely. We all need storage and if you do it a little smart you can have nice boxes, baskets, pots and other things that both serve as storage and decoration. Significantly cheaper than two separate details.
  6. Minimalism is a good word for those who want to save money. If you do not have many things on the walls or in general around your home, it will simply be cheaper.
